VR (Virtual Reality) was proposed by Jaron Lanier, the founder of VPL in the early 1980s. VR devices are all wearable (such as VR glasses) that allow you to see a 360-degree virtual environment, making it like you are in another place, or a video or a game inside. The VR devices are all wearable (such as VR glasses) that allow you to see a 360-degree virtual environment as if you were in another place, or inside a video or game. Its specific connotation is the integrated use of computer graphics systems and a variety of reality and control and other interface devices, in the computer-generated, interactive three-dimensional environment to provide a sense of immersion in the technology.
From a technical point of view, virtual reality systems have the following three basic characteristics: the three “I “s immersion- interaction-imagination, which emphasize the human-led role in It emphasizes the dominant role of the human in the virtual system. From the past when people could only observe the results of processing from outside the computer system, they can immerse themselves in the environment created by the computer system; from the past when people could only interact with the single-dimensional digital information in the computing environment through the keyboard and mouse, they can interact with the multi-dimensional information environment using multiple sensors; from the past when people could only be inspired by the results of quantitative calculations to deepen their understanding of things From the past when people could only deepen their conceptual understanding by focusing on quantitative computational results, to an environment where people have the potential to deepen their conceptual understanding and develop new ideas by gaining perception and rationality from the integration of qualitative and quantitative information. VR emphasizes the complete immersion of a person in a virtual world and makes it as imperceptible as possible, while interacting in the virtual world through position tracking, head tracking, gestural motion capture, etc.
Among them, the computer-generated, interactive three-dimensional environment is called the virtual environment (i.e., Virtual Environment, or VE). Virtual Reality is a technology that allows the creation and experience of a computer simulation system of a virtual world. It uses a computer to generate a simulated environment that immerses the user in that environment using a systematic simulation of interactive 3D dynamic visuals and entity behaviour that fuses information from multiple sources. VR is a simulation of a virtual three-dimensional scene, and then put the human consciousness into it, and carry out some series of
interactive operations. For example, simulate the creation of a three-dimensional LOL (League of Legends) map, and then put the human consciousness into (immersed in) the map as the hero to play.
AR (Augmented Reality) is a new technology that integrates real world information and virtual world information “seamlessly”, which takes physical information (visual information, sound, taste, touch, etc.) that is difficult to experience within a certain time and space in the real world and applies it to the real world through computers and other scientific technologies. The virtual information is applied to the real world and perceived by human senses, thus achieving a sensory experience beyond reality.
The real environment and virtual objects are superimposed in real time to the same picture or space at the same time. In layman’s terms, augmented reality is the superimposition of the virtual on top of the real, thus making the real sensory experience more real. For example, placing a virtual 3D image of a rose in a real vase and dancing its petals as the wind blows (AR is half-real).
Augmented reality consists of three aspects: combining virtual objects with reality; instant interaction; and three dimensions. It is the enrichment of the real through the virtual in a three-dimensional world and can be interacted with in real time.
